Is there an example that would demonstrate the multi-threading feature of the OSS ASN.1 Tools for Java?

Yes, there is an example that demonstrates the multi-threading feature of the OSS ASN.1 Tools for Java using the baseball example. It creates a separate thread for each coder for the (myCard) PDU object and executes threads in parallel. The output from each thread is captured in an internal buffer and is printed after all threads are no longer live to provide a readable output. Each thread performs the following:

• prints value notation for myCard;
• checks whether or not myCard satisfies constraints applied to its type;
• encodes myCard;
• decodes the resulting encoded value;
• prints value notation for the decoded value.

Note that at the time this example was written there was no way to re-direct tracing from encoders/decoders to another output stream. So the debugging capability is disabled in this test program. (If you are interested in redirecting tracing so that printing of different threads is readable, contact support@oss.com ).

To make it easier for you to run the example from the command line, two scripts are included, a Unix .sh and a Windows .bat.

To run it on a Unix platform, change directory to the threads directory and type:

./run.sh

To run it on Windows, change directory to the threads directory and type:

run

To do a cleanup on Unix, type:

./run.sh cleanup

To do a cleanup on Windows, type:

run cleanup
