Yes, there is such an example which demonstrates the benefits of automatic decoding when a PDU contains numerous open type values at various nesting levels. It attempts to decode open type values that are nested in a complex NBAP message automatically and then demonstrates how much extra code you would have to write in order to decode these nested open types manually. The output from this example can be found in autodec.out. For more detailed information, refer to autodec.txt that is included in the "download" below.
To make it easier for you to run the example from the command line, two scripts are included, a Unix .sh and a Windows .bat.
To run it on a Unix platform, cd to the autodec directory and type:
./run.sh
To run it on Windows, cd to the autodec directory and type:
run
To do a cleanup on Windows, type:
run cleanup
