Is there an example that would show how to produce mixed DEFINITE-INDEFINITE BER encodings and convert primitive string type BER-encodings to constructed?

Yes, there is such an example. This test shows how you can produce mixed INDEFINITE/DEFINITE encodings with fragmented string components using the DeferDecoding ASN.1 compiler directive. In addition to what the following example does, this example converts an OCTET STRING value to a constructed fragmented one and then injects it as an OpenType component of the enclosing parent PDU.

This example is a fully operational VC++ project that you can download below and run as is. You will need to do some adjustments to your Visual Studio settings to reflect your installation of the OSS ASN.1 Tools. There is also attached a UNIX example.

If you target an operating system other than Windows or UNIX, you can also use either of these zip files and discard the Windows- or UNIX-specific files.
